Acanthus S-Scroll Corner Onlay

One long, luxurious curl of carved acanthus. This onlay is a single flowing S-scroll ornament in the baroque tradition. A tall stem rises and rolls over into a tight volute at the top, edged with a feathered acanthus leaf, then sweeps back down in a graceful question-mark curve. At the foot, a fan of pointed acanthus leaves spreads left and right around a coiled snail-shell volute, all resting on a small folded plinth base. The modelling is rounded and soft-shouldered, so the light glides along the stem and pools in the leaf hollows. It's made for furniture and interiors: a corner or side embellishment on a cabinet, mirror or picture frame, a stair-string or newel accent, a headboard flourish, or a drop beneath a mantel shelf. CNC notes: • Single-sided relief — rough it, then finish with a 2–3 mm ball-nose to keep the rolled volute and leaf tips smooth. • It's directional, so mirror the file to make a matched left/right pair for symmetrical placements. • Run the grain up the length of the stem for strength; the slender curl is the fragile spot, so choose a tight-grained hardwood or dense MDF. • As a 3D print it works as a glue-on appliqué — print it face-up flat with supports off, or lay it back at a slight angle for the cleanest curl. Gesso and gild it, or stain to match existing woodwork for a seamless period look.
