Description

A long, breaking wave of carved acanthus — scrolls unfurling to the left while feathered leaves flick up and away on the right. D 460 is a horizontal decorative onlay built around a swept S-line of baroque scrollwork. Follow it across: a tight volute curls under at the far left, a fan of ribbed acanthus leaves fountains up through the centre, small beaded buds tuck into the hollows, and the tail sweeps out into a second open scroll wrapped around a little ball terminal on the right. Every surface is modelled in generous relief with rounded, hand-carved-looking forms and deep shadow lines cut between the leaves. The back is flat for surface mounting. Cabinetmakers, frame builders and furniture restorers reach for pieces like this to crown a drawer front, centre a pediment, or run a decorative band above a doorway. It also mirrors cleanly — flip a copy for a matched pair flanking a centrepiece. CNC / print notes • Perfect for 3-axis carving: rough with a 6 mm bit, then take a 1.5–2 mm ball-nose finishing pass to chase the leaf tips and scroll eyes. • For 3D printing, lay it on the flat back so the relief faces up and self-supports. • Mind the thin leaf tips — at small scale, add perimeters or wall loops so they do not come out brittle. • Gorgeous under dark wax or a two-tone stain that settles into the recesses and lifts the ridges.
