Description

Whiplash curves caught mid-swirl — an Art Nouveau flourish that seems to breathe. This is a slim, horizontal decorative onlay built entirely from flowing, interlaced ribbon-strands. Everything mirrors across a raised central sphere: from that domed boss twin loops arch upward like a pair of stylised brows, while long tapering tails sweep outward and coil into tight curls at each tip. There is no floral or figurative subject here — the whole piece is pure Jugendstil line-work, all tension and grace, the kind of sinuous motif you'd find framing a fin-de-siècle doorway or a Tiffany-era headboard. Because it sits low and wide, it fits places a taller carving cannot: the crown rail of a bed, the apron beneath a mantel, the top of a wardrobe door, or centred above a mirror. Painted, gilded or left in bare timber, the raised strands catch a raking light beautifully. Print / CNC notes • Flat-backed relief — it mills or prints face-up with the flat side on the bed, so no supports are needed. • Rough with a larger ball-nose, then finish the crossing strands and the central dome with a fine tapered ball-nose for clean over-unders. • In wood, a straight-grained hardwood such as maple, cherry or walnut holds the thin ribbon tips without chipping. • For resin or FDM, add a slim flat margin around the perimeter to make gluing onto a panel easier, and sand the raised ribbons before finishing.
