Description

A wide carved crest with a tiny lion standing guard in its middle. This horizontal ornament sweeps out to the left and right like a pair of wings, built from layered acanthus fronds and scroll tips that curl back on themselves at the ends. At the centre sits a raised round boss, and pressed into that boss is a small lion's mask — mane, muzzle and all — framed by a shell-like fan rising above and a little palmette dropping below. The symmetry is clean and the carving depth is bold, so it throws a strong shadow line across whatever it is mounted to. Think of it as a topper: the crown of a cabinet, the centre of an over-door pediment, the crest above a mantel mirror, or the header of a bespoke headboard. The lion gives it a heraldic, slightly stately feel without being fussy. Print notes: • Best cut on a CNC router; the sweeping fronds are shallow but the lion mask needs a fine finishing bit (2mm ball or smaller) to read properly. • Orient the stock with the long axis along your machine's X travel to keep the wingtips in one clean pass. • The tips taper thin — hold them down with tabs or a vacuum bed so they don't lift late in the cut. • Printing rather than routing? Lay it flat, face up, no supports needed, then hand-detail the mane if your nozzle blurs it.
