Rose And Scroll Apron Valance

A single blooming rose anchoring a sweep of scrollwork across a shaped panel. This horizontal CNC relief centres on a full, layered rose in three-quarter bloom, its petals curling open above a fan of leaves. From the flower, slim C-scrolls and beaded flourishes ripple outward to both ends, each tail finishing in a small volute and a round bead. The panel itself is not a plain rectangle: the top edge runs straight while the lower edge dips into a shallow, symmetrical arch, giving it the profile of a valance, apron or drop. That shaped bottom edge is the clue to its use. It is made for the underside of things, the apron below a table top or cabinet, the header above a doorway or mirror, a pelmet over a window, or the front rail of a bed. Cut wide and low, it fills a horizontal span without feeling heavy. Cutting notes • Single-sided raised relief; rough with a 6mm end mill, then finish with a tapered ball nose for the rounded petal transitions and scroll fillets. • The rose sits proud of the field, so set your finishing stepover fine on the flower to keep the petals smooth. • Beech, oak or tulipwood all carve cleanly; MDF is fine if you are painting or gilding. • Sand the flat field lightly without rounding the crisp scroll edges, then oil, wax or paint to taste.
