Description
A continuous barley-twist rope, ready to run trim along anything with an edge. This is a straight length of decorative moulding carved as a spiralling rope, its strands winding at an even pitch down a uniform round bead that sits on a slim flat backing rail — so the finished strip seats flush against a frame or cabinet edge. Rope moulding is one of the oldest and most useful trims in the workshop: it dresses picture and mirror frames, cabinet and shelf edges, cornices, box lids and furniture rails, adding a hand-turned look without a lathe. Print / CNC notes • Treat the file as a repeatable section: tile it end-to-end to make up any run length you need, matching the twist across the joins. • A ball-nose bit gives the strands their rounded, tactile profile; a small stepover keeps the spiral smooth. • When cutting in hardwood, run the grain along the length so the thin bead stays strong. • Miter the ends to turn corners cleanly. • It also prints well as lightweight trim — orient the length flat, add a brim for bed adhesion, then prime and paint to mimic carved wood or gilded moulding. Simple, endlessly reusable, and quietly transforms a plain edge into something considered.
