Carved Oak Leaf Onlay

A single oak leaf, caught mid-curl as if it just drifted onto the wood. This relief captures one lobed oak leaf with a gently twisting tip that lifts away from the panel. A deep central rib runs the length of the blade, feeding into paired secondary veins that press into each rounded lobe, and the whole surface swells and dips so the sculpt reads as soft foliage rather than a flat cut-out. The edges are irregular and natural, tapering to a fine stem at the base. It is designed as a decorative applique for furniture and joinery: think cabinet doors, drawer fronts, a fireplace surround, headboard crests, or a picture-frame corner. Grouped in mirrored pairs it makes a handsome autumnal border; used singly it works as a quiet naturalist accent. The file is a one-sided relief with a flat back, ideal for machining from a solid blank and gluing straight onto a workpiece, or for printing and mounting. Print / cut notes • Run a fine ball-nose finishing pass along the veins and lobe hollows to keep the vein channels crisp. • Flat back sits flush for gluing; no supports needed if printed face-up. • Scales cleanly from a small 60 mm accent to a large 250 mm centrepiece. • Finish with wax or a warm oil to pull out the grain flow across the raised blade.
