Description

Two acanthus fronds curl toward one another over a scrolled, open teardrop. A vertical drop ornament with real movement to it. At the top, a pair of mirrored acanthus leaves flare into trumpet-like tips that roll over on themselves. They flow downward into a set of curling volutes that wrap inward, and the whole composition resolves at the base into an open teardrop loop with a rounded scroll at its heart. The relief is deep and sculptural, with genuine depth between the leaves so the piece almost looks undercut. Hang it where a piece needs a drop: below a shelf or apron, down the centre of a door panel, as a crest over a mirror, or on the face of a longcase clock. Print / CNC notes: • This is a taller relief — rough the mass with a ball-nose, then a fine tapered bit to reach into the deep pockets between the fronds and read the curls as near-undercut. • Orient it vertically on the blank so the leaf flow matches the grain. • Expect deep pocketing between the scrolls; a longer bit or a two-stage depth pass helps. • Hardwood really shows off the sweep of the leaves once oiled.
