Domed Boss Scrolled Corner Appliqué

A raised dome cradled in a hexagon, framed by four out-curling scrolls. This compact ornament centres on a smooth, pillow-like circular boss sitting inside a recessed hexagonal panel. From the top and bottom edges twin flat straps arch across, and each of the four corners resolves into a bold C-scroll volute that rolls outward like a fern crozier. It is a symmetrical, low-relief appliqué — the kind of accent block used to dress a cabinet door, a newel post, a bed frame or a fireplace surround. The strong central dome and generous scroll depth give it real shadow and presence even at a small size, and its four-fold symmetry means it sits equally well vertically or horizontally. CNC notes • Cut as a single-sided relief; because it is symmetrical you can tile or mirror copies quickly across a run of matching doors. • Rough with a flat end mill, then run a ball-nose finishing pass (1.5–3 mm) so the central dome comes out smooth and the scroll spirals stay crisp. • Leave a small flat border of stock around the ornament so you have clean edges to trim or route free after carving. • Basswood, cherry, oak or MDF all suit it; keep the stepover tight on the dome to avoid faceting on the curved surface. • Glue-mount to the workpiece, then stain or paint as one; a wiped-on dark glaze deepens the recesses and lifts the raised boss.
