Flowing Wave Cornice Molding

A ribbon of carved water, frozen mid-swell. This piece is a length of running molding whose lower edge rises and falls in smooth, glossy waves — two long troughs sweeping up to meet at a soft central crest, the surfaces rounded and polished so light glides along them without a single hard corner. The top edge is cut flat and continues past the frame, which tells you it is meant to be run as a continuous profile rather than admired as one standalone object. Put it to work as a decorative cornice, a valance or pelmet above a window, an apron beneath a shelf or tabletop, or a repeating frieze along cabinet doors. Mirror or tile the length end to end and the wave keeps flowing. Cut notes: • On a CNC router, rough with a flat end mill and finish the rounded swells with a ball-nose bit for that seamless, hand-sanded surface. • Straight-grained hardwood such as oak, maple or walnut — or a stable MDF — takes the curves cleanly; run passes along the grain to avoid tear-out on the crests. • Because it is a running profile, cut your stock a little long so repeats line up when you join them. • It prints just as happily: lay it flat on the bed with no supports, and the smooth top face doubles as your glue surface.
