Description

A framed swag that turns a plain rail into something considered. This is a compact rectangular relief panel: a clean bordered frame enclosing a gently draped swag that dips through the centre and curls into a neat scrolled volute at each bottom corner. The carving is soft and low, with rounded, almost pillowed surfaces rather than sharp Baroque drama, which gives it a calm, transitional character that sits happily on both traditional and more restrained modern pieces. Think of it as an apron or valance ornament. Mount it beneath a cabinet, along the skirt of a table, above a doorway, or as the centre panel of a headboard or blanket chest. Its horizontal format is made to fill a run of rail. Carve and print notes • Purely a low-relief panel with a flat back, so it is straightforward for a 3-axis CNC in a single setup. • Use a roughing pass and then a ball-nose finishing pass; the gentle curves do not demand a tiny stepover, so it cuts quickly. • For 3D printing, lay it face-up on the bed; the shallow relief prints support-free in PLA or PETG. • Sand the raised drape lightly, then paint, stain or lime-wax. Because the relief is soft, a contrasting glaze worked into the recesses is what makes the pattern pop.
