Description

A long, low band of mirrored scrollwork sunk into a clean rectangular frame — quiet, formal ornament made to run the length of a rail. This is a horizontal frieze panel: a shallow recessed field bordered by a plain flat margin, with a slim relief of foliage running its full width. At the dead centre sits a small palmette cartouche, and from it symmetrical scrolling stems unfurl to left and right, each ending in tight beaded curls and little C-shaped volutes that repeat down the run. The low, even relief keeps it elegant rather than busy. It is made for the long, narrow spots that most ornaments can't fill: the frieze rail of a dresser or bookcase, a drawer front, the apron under a table top, a door-head panel, or the border of a serving tray. The recessed border means it can drop straight into a routed pocket, or be cut as an inset panel and framed. Cut notes • Suits stable hardwoods or a good ply for painted work; the shallow detail shows off best in a light timber. • V-bit clear the recessed field first, then finish the scroll relief with a fine ball-nose so the beaded curls stay defined. • The design tiles end to end — trim the model and repeat it to reach any length you need. • Keep the relief height modest (a few millimetres) so the flat border reads as a clean frame; sand the field lightly before finishing to remove any fuzz.
