Ridged Fleur-de-Lis Onlay

The classic fleur-de-lis, rendered as a clean and confident carving. Three petals rise from a bound waist: a tall, ridged central leaf pointing skyward, flanked by two side petals that curl outward and tuck back on themselves, all cinched by a horizontal band and finishing in a pointed lower spur. The forms are smooth and rounded with a raised spine running down each petal, so raking light gives the piece a soft sculptural glow rather than hard edges. A fleur-de-lis is endlessly useful decor — French-country and New Orleans styling, scouting and heraldic themes, or simply a timeless motif for a door, gate, headboard, cabinet centre or garden plaque. Mount it solo, or repeat it as a running border. Print / CNC notes • The symmetry makes it forgiving: cut in any tight-grained wood, or 3D print flat with the relief facing up — no supports required. • For CNC, a ball-nose finishing pass keeps the petal curls and central spines smooth; a small v-bit pass sharpens the binding band. • It scales cleanly from a small drawer ornament to a large door centrepiece — just set your stock thickness to at least the relief depth plus a base. Gild it, paint it black or bronze, or wax over a stained ground for an antique look.
