Description

A single sweeping curve that does all the work — no ornament, just line. The model is a cabriole-style furniture leg: it begins as a slim, slightly flared top block, narrows into a graceful neck, then swells outward into a rounded knee before sweeping back down and forward again to a neat pad foot. Seen in profile it reads almost like a calligraphic stroke — smooth, continuous, softly rounded at every edge with not a sharp facet anywhere along its length. It's a workshop staple for anyone building or restoring small tables, stools, stands or cabinets in a Queen Anne or French provincial spirit, and scales down beautifully as a leg for a jewellery box or dolls'-house furniture. Cutting & printing notes • On a 4-axis or rotary machine, cut it in the round from a squared blank; on a 3-axis, rout the front and side profiles and blend the corners by hand. • Printed, stand it on the foot and add a raft plus light supports up the concave back of the ankle. • Keep grain (or print layers) running the full length of the leg for strength at the thin neck. • Leave a little extra stock at the top mounting face so you can true it flush to the apron.
