Description

A carved drop that flares open like a fan up top and tapers to a heavy cluster of fruit at its tip. This vertical onlay reads top to bottom as three distinct movements: a spread of rounded petals opening like a palmette or half-sunflower at the crown, a pair of thick scrolled volutes that curl outward from the centre like a stylised acanthus lyre, and a dense pendant of berries — one plump sphere framed by a ring of teardrop seeds — hanging at the base. The whole piece is symmetrical about its spine and modelled in soft, rounded relief, so light rolls gently across the lobes instead of catching hard edges. It suits the drop position under a cabinet cornice, either side of a fireplace overmantel, or centred on a wide door panel or headboard where a downward-pointing accent draws the eye. Shrunk down, it also works as a keyhole escutcheon surround or a drawer-front flourish. Print notes: • Machine or print face-up; the relief is shallow and reads best lit from above. • On a CNC router, rough with a 6mm end mill and finish the lobe hollows and berry undercuts with a 1.5–3mm tapered ball nose. • For FDM, lay it flat on the back face — no supports needed — and slice at 0.12mm to keep the berry spheres crisp. • Sand the broad petal faces before staining; the rounded forms take a gel stain or gilt wax beautifully.
