Art Deco Diamond Boss Onlay

A slim jewel of a moulding, made to run vertically down a panel. This CNC relief model is a tall, symmetrical onlay: two elongated hexagonal frames stacked point-to-point, pinched at the centre where a raised diamond boss sits. That central boss carries a neat four-petal rosette with a domed pip at its heart, catching the light against the crisp linear border around it. The whole piece has an elegant, almost Art Deco leanness — far more restrained than a heavy acanthus carving. It's the kind of vertical accent that dresses a cabinet stile, a door rail, the centre of a headboard or a fireplace surround, and it repeats beautifully end-to-end if you need a longer run. Furniture makers and restorers reach for pieces like this to lift a plain flat face without overwhelming it. Cutting notes • Supplied as a 3D relief — machine it on a CNC router with a decorative V-bit and a fine ballnose for the beveled lattice and the rosette petals. • A tight stepover on the finishing pass (around 8–10%) keeps the raised bevels and the central pip smooth and reflective. • Best in a close-grained hardwood such as maple, cherry, beech or walnut so the fine border lines stay sharp. • Rough out with a larger flat endmill first, then let the ballnose do the detail; a light sand at 240 grit is usually all the cleanup it needs. Equally usable as a resin or filament print for an applied wood-look onlay if you don't have a router to hand.
