Palmette-Crest Round Dish

A smooth little basin crowned by a single burst of carved scrollwork. This piece is a shallow round dish or catch-all, its wide concave bowl ringed by a clean raised lip. The star of the design sits at the top edge: a fluted fan-shaped palmette flanked by two facing C-scrolls that curl outward, with a small bead nestled between them — a crisp classical crest set against the plain, sweeping interior. The restraint is the whole point. The empty bowl gives you a soft, sanded surface for keys, coins, rings or trinkets by the door, while the scroll crest lifts it from plain kitchenware into something decorative. It also works purely as a wall ornament, or as a fountain-basin motif within a larger carved scheme. Cut / print notes • On CNC, rough the bowl with a large ball-nose then finish with fine radial passes for a smooth, ripple-free concave surface. • The crest is the detail zone — drop to a small tool for the flutes and the tight scroll eyes. • Close-grained timbers (maple, cherry, lime) sand to a glassier bowl than open-grained oak. • For 3D printing, orient the flat back on the plate with the bowl facing up, no supports; sand or vapour-smooth the interior for a clean catch dish.
