Description

A flourish of carved leaves to finish a cabinet door or headboard. D 516 is a symmetrical onlay, a flat-backed decorative appliqué designed to be glued or pinned onto a larger surface. From a small shell-like cup at the base, a central bud rises between two mirrored sprays of acanthus foliage, each one sweeping outward and curling into a tight scroll at the tip. The leaf blades are deeply veined and undercut, so raking light throws real shadow across the piece. Think of it as furniture jewellery: a crest over a drawer front, the centre of a mirror frame, the apron of a table, or the top of a headboard. Sign makers use pieces like this to dress the corners of carved panels. Print and carve notes • The back is flat, so orient it face-up for CNC and face-down flat on the bed for 3D printing to skip supports entirely. • A V-bit plus a small tapered ball-nose will pick out the leaf veins; leave a shallow 0.3 to 0.5 mm skin so the onlay stays rigid when you release it. • If printing in resin, the fine scroll tips are the fragile point, so thicken them by about 5 percent when it is going onto a working piece rather than a display. • Finishes beautifully under a gilt cream or a dark wax rubbed into the recesses.
