Description
A classic run of moulding that turns a plain edge into something architectural. This linear trim carries a repeating egg-and-lunette motif: a row of raised ovals, each cradled inside a horseshoe arch and separated by crisp vertical divisions, marching evenly along the length of the strip. It is a timeless border pattern with roots in Greco-Roman cornice work, sculpted here as a low, even relief ready to be cut to length. Run it along the top of cabinetry, frame a mantel or fireplace surround, cap a wainscot rail, or build it into picture and mirror frames. The repeat tiles seamlessly, so you can mill several passes and butt them end to end for a longer moulding. CNC notes: • Built for a linear repeat: machine one segment and array it, or nest a full length to suit your workpiece. • Rough with an end mill, then finish with a 2-3 mm ball nose to keep the ovals smooth and the arch valleys clean. • Straight-grained hardwoods such as oak, maple or beech, or a stable moulding stock, hold the fine parallel divisions best. • Sand along the length so you do not flatten the raised ovals, then stain or gild; a dark glaze wiped into the recesses really pops the pattern.
