Winged Acanthus Bud Crest

A flourish of carved leaves, caught mid-unfurl. This CNC relief is a symmetrical ornament — a central pointed acanthus bud flanked by sweeping, layered wing-like fronds that curl outward and back, gathered at the base by a small cupped banner. It has the elegance of a classical furniture crest or a fleur-de-lis flourish, the kind of applied ornament you'd find crowning a mirror, a mantel or a cabinet cornice. Ideal for furniture restorers and makers adding a period touch, sign and plaque makers wanting a decorative header, and anyone routing appliqués to glue onto larger pieces. Cut notes • It's a one-sided relief onlay: machine from a single face on flat stock, then part it off and apply where you like. • The deep undercurls between the fronds want a ballnose finishing pass (2–4 mm) after roughing; that's where the soft, rounded "carved by hand" shading comes from. • Hardwoods (walnut, oak, cherry) show the flowing grain beautifully; MDF takes paint and gilding well if you're after a gilt-crest look. • Symmetry makes it easy to mirror or repeat along a rail; scale from a small 100 mm accent up to a 350 mm centrepiece while keeping the relief depth proportional so the central spear stays crisp.
