Curling Acanthus Corner Scroll

A single sweeping acanthus scroll, all movement in one flowing line. Read it from the bottom up: a fat spiral volute coils tight at the base, then unwinds into a rising stem that throws off layered acanthus leaves, each frond curling back on itself with a deep carved channel down its spine. A couple of pierced eyelets punctuate the foliage where leaf meets leaf. It is an asymmetric corner ornament — the kind of flourish you would set into the corner of a door panel, a headboard, a fireplace surround or a picture frame, where its diagonal sweep leads the eye inward. Because it is directional, it is built to be mirrored: run one as cut for the right corner, flip the file for the left, and you have a matched pair. Cut & print notes • On the router, finish with a small tapered ballnose to dig cleanly into the volute's centre and the deep leaf channels. • Keep a fine stepover on the finishing pass so the curled leaf tips don't go blocky. • Printing it as a relief? Lay it flat on its back at 0.08–0.12 mm — no supports needed, and the leaves come off crisp. • Oak or walnut for a period look; primed MDF if it is going to be painted.
