Description

An upward-licking flame of carved foliage. This vertical onlay is a classic acanthus drop — a slim, teardrop-shaped ornament that starts in a pair of full, curled lobes at the base and tapers upward through overlapping leaf tips to a single pointed flourish at the crown. The central spine is deeply channelled so the leaves seem to peel away from it, giving the small piece a surprising amount of movement and depth. These appliqués are the finishing touch furniture restorers and cabinetmakers reach for: glue one to a door panel, a mirror-frame corner, a clock case, a bedpost or the apron of a table and instantly add period character. Making notes • One-sided relief with a flat glue-back — carve or print detail-up with the back flat on the bed. • CNC: a 3mm ball nose roughing pass followed by a 1mm tapered ball finishing pass captures the veined channels and rolled lobe edges. • 3D printing: lay flat, no supports required; 0.1mm layers keep the tapering tip sharp. Mirror the file if you need a matching left/right pair. • Finish to match the host timber — stain, gild, or paint and antique with a dark glaze pushed into the deep central groove. Resize the height to fit your panel; the leaf proportions stay elegant whether it's a 6cm accent or a 25cm centrepiece.
