Oval Boss And Palmette Onlay

A compact carved medallion built around a smooth oval eye. At its heart sits a raised oval boss ringed by a bold bead-and-frame, cradled between two symmetrical S-scroll volutes that curl inward like ram's horns. Above and below, a pair of scalloped palmette fans — plump, radiating lobes — flare out to give the piece an hourglass, almost heraldic silhouette. Everything is rounded and softly modelled, throwing gentle shadows rather than sharp ones, which makes it feel more Regency-plaster than Gothic-stone. This is a versatile applied ornament: a centre motif for cabinet doors and drawer fronts, a corner or keystone accent on mirror and picture frames, a rosette for a bedpost or newel, or a repeatable plaque along a run of panelling. The plain oval boss is a natural spot to leave blank, or to drill for a knob or a mounting screw. Cut / print notes • CNC: the smooth lobes finish beautifully with a ball-nose; only the tight scroll centres need a small stepover. • Fully symmetrical top-to-bottom and left-to-right, so it tiles and mirrors predictably in a layout. • As an STL, print face-up flat on the bed and support only the back; the low, rounded relief needs very little cleanup. • Great in wood, MDF or resin — prime and paint, or stain and wax to warm the carved lobes.
