Scrolled Acanthus Cornice Terminal

A length of smooth cornice that ends in a graceful scrolled leaf flourish. This piece is a decorative moulding terminal, a broad, softly curved cornice profile (the sort that runs along the top of cabinets, mantels and panelling) that finishes at one end in a carved detail: a rolled volute scroll stacked above a downward-sweeping acanthus leaf. The long face is left plain and gently convex so it reads as clean moulding, while the ornament concentrates all the interest at the return, where the leaf's lobes curl and layer over one another. Mirror it for the opposite end and you frame a run of plain moulding with a matching pair of flourishes. It is ideal for cabinet crowns, over-mantels, door heads, mirror frames and architectural trim in a traditional style. CNC / print notes: • Runs as a 3D relief; rough with a ball-nose, then finish the scroll and leaf with a fine tapered bit to keep the curls crisp. • Straight-grained hardwood or MDF for painted work both suit it, and the smooth field polishes up easily. • Remember to cut a mirrored version for the left-hand terminal so the pair reads symmetrically. • If 3D printing, lay it face-up flat on the bed (no supports on the moulding face) and lightly support only the undercut beneath the scroll.
