Ribbed Shell and Acanthus Crest

A rising sun of ribbed petals cradled by two sweeping acanthus wings. This horizontal onlay is perfectly symmetrical: at its heart a fan of slender, rounded ribs spreads upward from a small half-round boss, like a stylised shell or palmette catching the light. From either side, long S-curved leaf scrolls arch away and roll back on themselves, tapering to neat little bud terminals at the outer tips. The relief is soft and flowing rather than sharp — all gentle domes and hollows that read beautifully once light rakes across them. It's a classic furniture ornament. Glue it to a drawer front, the crest of a headboard, a mirror or clock crown, the apron of a cabinet, or centre it on a door panel to lift a plain surface into something period and considered. CNC notes • Shallow decorative relief — a tapered ball-nose finishing pass keeps those rounded ribs and scroll rolls smooth. • Cuts cleanly in a tight-grained hardwood like oak, maple or walnut; MDF works if you plan to paint or gild. • The piece tiles and mirrors happily, so you can extend it into a longer running band along a rail. • Leave a little flat margin so it sits flush when applied, and hand-sand the raised petal edges before finishing to avoid fuzz.
