Rope-Twist And Leaf Pilaster

A rope of twisted strands running shoulder-to-shoulder with a smooth, blade-like leaf. This tall, narrow vertical carving pairs two textures down its length: on one side a tightly wound spiral rope-twist, rung after rung climbing to a pointed tip, and on the other a plain, gently swelling leaf face split by a single crisp centre-groove. The top tapers to a soft point like the end of a feather, giving the whole element a sense of upward movement. It is designed to run vertically as a pilaster or stile decoration, a mirror-frame upright, the front of a cabinet leg, or a paired trim either side of a door or headboard. Carved as a mirrored pair it frames an opening beautifully. Print notes • The rope twist is the star; finish it with a small ball-nose and a fine stepover so each strand stays round and separate. • Mill along the grain in real timber to stop the twist chipping at the crossovers. • For 3D printing, stand it upright for the smoothest spiral, or lay it flat with light supports under the deepest twist channels if you prefer speed. • The single spine line on the leaf side is shallow, so take care not to over-sand it away.
