Description

Two coiled scrolls facing off, each hugging a little sphere in its curl. This ornament is a symmetrical pair of round volutes — two large disc-like scrolls set side by side, mirrored, each spiralling inward to cradle a raised ball. Beneath them, two smaller matching scrolls curl up from the base with their own little spheres, so the piece reads as a compact, self-contained knot of Baroque scrollwork. The forms are smoothly rounded and deeply modelled, giving strong highlights and soft shadow across the coils. It works beautifully as a corner motif, a centred accent on a drawer front or door stile, a pair of matching medallions flanking a keyhole or handle, or a small crest above a cabinet panel. Its self-symmetry means it sits happily on its own without needing a border to frame it. Print notes: • The rolled scrolls and the recessed spheres are the whole point — finish with a small ball-nose bit so the spiral centres stay crisp and the balls stay spherical. • On CNC, the deepest cut is the ring channel around each disc; plan stepped passes to clear chips from those tight troughs. • Great in a dense hardwood where the polished coils catch light, or in paint-grade stock for a clean contemporary look. • 3D printing it? Face up, flat back, no supports; a light sanding across the coils removes any layer stepping before finishing.
