Arched Scroll-End Onlay Moulding

A gentle arch that lifts the top of any panel or cabinet. This is a decorative onlay: a slim, symmetrical arched bar that rises in a shallow curve across the middle and finishes at each end in a neat inward scroll, like a rolled volute. A raised bead follows the whole length, giving it a crisp shadow line when light rakes across it. It reads as a classic furniture embellishment, the kind of applied moulding you glue or pin across the top rail of a door, the crown of a headboard, above a mirror, or along a valance to break up a flat expanse of timber. Because it is a shallow relief with an even profile, it is forgiving to cut and easy to blend into a larger piece. Mirror it, repeat it, or pair it with corbels for a matched set. Cut / print notes • On the CNC, a ball-nose finishing pass gives the rounded bead and scroll ends their soft edges; a 2-3mm stepover keeps the surface clean. • Hardwoods such as oak, walnut and beech take the fine scroll detail best; MDF works for painted jobs. • As a 3D print, lay it flat on its back face so the decorative side needs no supports, then sand the top edge lightly. • Leave a little flat land on the reverse for a strong glue joint to the substrate.
