Daisy Bloom Scroll Onlay

A single plump bloom on a furling scroll. This onlay pairs a rounded, many-petalled flower — think stylised daisy or wild rose, its short petals cupped around a domed central boss — with a tapering stem that resolves into a soft, rolled scroll at the foot. The whole piece is sculpted as a smooth, pillowy relief, all rounded volumes and gentle valleys rather than sharp detail, which gives it a friendly, almost folk-carved character. Mounted vertically it makes a charming appliqué for a drawer front, cupboard door, bedpost or mirror frame; a mirrored pair flanking a central panel looks especially balanced. It's the kind of small accent that dresses up a plain flat surface without shouting. Cut notes • The soft, bulbous forms are forgiving — a 3mm ball nose finishing pass gets you most of the way, with a 1.5mm bit for the tuck where the scroll rolls under. • Because the flower stands proud, leave a little extra stock depth and machine it as a raised onlay, then part it from the waste. • Beech, maple or a paint-grade hardwood all suit it; the simple surfaces take paint and gilding cleanly. • Ease all edges by hand so it feels worn-smooth, then glue-and-pin to the host piece.
