Scroll-End Reeded Rail Moulding

A slender rail that finishes each end with a neat rolled curl. This is a long, low horizontal moulding: a gently reeded bar, rounded in section, that terminates at both ends in a tight Ionic-style volute spiral. Simple, architectural and quietly elegant, it draws a clean line with just enough ornament at the tips to keep it from looking plain. The two scrolls are mirror images, so the piece sits perfectly balanced from left to right. It works as an apron beneath a shelf or table top, a rail across a headboard or cabinet, a slim overdoor accent, or — scaled down — as a decorative drawer pull or handle. Cut notes • Long and thin: run the grain lengthwise to avoid short-grain snapping at the scroll ends. • Rough the profile, then take a ballnose finishing pass to round the reeds and clean the inside of the spirals. • Fully mirror-symmetrical, so you can flip the toolpath if you only model half of it. • Set the carve depth to suit your stock — shallow for an applied trim, deeper if it is a standalone handle that will actually be gripped. Suits hardwood for furniture, or a printed version in resin or PLA for lighter fittings; ease the edges before finishing.
