Vertical Laurel Drop Onlay

A slender drop of carved laurel, dressed to run down a column. This CNC onlay is a tall, narrow leaf spray: overlapping laurel-style leaves feathering out symmetrically from a single central spine, tapering to a pointed leaf finial at both top and bottom, with a small round bud marking the waist where a pair of leaves opens wider. Every leaf carries a soft central vein, so raking light gives the whole strip real depth. Vertical onlays like this are the finishing touch on the stiles of a cabinet door, the sides of a mirror or clock case, a pilaster or newel post, or the corner of a carved panel — used singly or as a mirrored pair flanking a centrepiece. Print / CNC notes • Its long, thin footprint suits a tall narrow blank; nest two on one board to make a matched left/right pair. • A ballnose finishing pass (1.5–2mm) keeps the leaf veins and overlapping edges sharp; a tapered ball bit helps reach the tight valleys. • Fine-grained hardwoods — lime/basswood, cherry, pear — carve the delicate tips without chipping. • For 3D printing, lay it flat and face-up; the low relief prints support-free.
