Description

A tumbling cascade of baroque leafwork, carved to catch a raking light. This vertical relief is pure ornamental carving in the old European tradition. At the top a round medallion holds a plump six-petal rosette, framed by a curling volute and a fan of feathered acanthus leaves that sweep down and to the right like a breaking wave. The composition twists as it descends, gathering into a second flourish of serrated leaves before spiralling into a tight snail-shell scroll with a raised boss at its centre. The modelling is deep and confident, with crisp undercuts and softly rounded leaf tips that throw real shadow. It is designed as an applied ornament — an onlay for a cabinet door, headboard, fireplace surround, staircase newel or a framed piece of wall art. Cut as a mirrored pair it makes a handsome symmetrical set flanking a door or mirror. CNC notes: • Rough with a flat or ballnose bit, then finish with a tapered ballnose (1–2 mm) to reach the tight scroll centres and leaf undercuts. • A close-grained hardwood — lime, maple, cherry or walnut — holds the fine leaf edges far better than soft pine. • Leave a little extra Z depth in your stock; the piece rewards a deep cut where the leaves overlap. • Mirror the model in CAM for a matching left/right pair, and finish with oil or a dark wax rubbed into the recesses to make the relief pop.
