Description

A fluted scallop shell at the heart of a tumbling sea of baroque scrolls. This is a horizontal rectangular relief panel, wrapped in a thin raised border, with a ribbed scallop shell anchoring the exact centre. From that shell, symmetrical acanthus leaves and interlocking C- and S-scrolls unfurl to left and right, filling the field with flowing foliage, while two small round flower rosettes pin the lower corners. The mirrored layout and deep, overlapping cuts give it a rich, high-relief carved-frieze look. It's aimed at furniture and architectural work where you need a long decorative band: headboards, chest fronts, door panels, over-mantels, fireplace surrounds or fascia trim. The scallop-and-acanthus vocabulary is classic Rococo/baroque, so it pairs well with traditional cabinetry and framed panelling. CNC notes • Single-sided relief with genuine depth — allow a thicker blank and expect longer machine time than a shallow onlay. • Rough with a stout end mill, then finish with a long-reach tapered ball-nose to get down into the scroll cores and shell flutes. • If the panel is wider than your bed, split the toolpath and tile it, indexing carefully so the mirrored halves line up. • Choose a stable, close-grained hardwood; secure the blank well, as the deep pockets create side loads. • Detail-sand the scroll edges and shell ribs, then seal before finishing so stain doesn't blotch in the deeper recesses.
