Baroque Acanthus Cartouche Onlay

A crowned cartouche framed in curling acanthus. This deep-relief appliqué centres on a smooth shield-shaped cartouche, a blank panel you could leave plain or personalise, crowned by a small palmette flanked by two round bosses. From that crest, broad acanthus leaves unfurl outward and roll back into tight volutes on either side, while a pair of upturned tulip-like leaves anchor the base, giving the whole piece a balanced, symmetrical baroque silhouette. It is the kind of ornament that dresses a furniture pediment, a headboard centre, a fireplace overmantel or the top rail of a mirror frame. Mounted on a painted door panel it instantly lends a period, hand-carved feel. Cut notes: • Designed as a single-sided 3D relief; mill from hardwood (oak, tulipwood, maple) or paint-grade MDF for indoor decor. • Rough with a 1/4" ball-nose, then finish the flowing leaf hollows with a 1/8" or 1/16" tapered ball for crisp veining. • Watch the undercut curls where the volutes roll back; a fine finishing pass keeps them clean, and a little hand-sanding lifts the highlights. • Scale to your panel width, then glue and pin; prime and gild or paint to match existing trim.
