Scrolled Acanthus Leaf Onlay

A single, sweeping acanthus leaf frozen mid-curl. This corner onlay fans a broad spray of rounded, spoon-tipped lobes out to one side, each finger rolling over into a soft bead, while the main body of the leaf twists back on itself into a fat rolled volute at the top. The opposite end pinches down to a slender pointed tail and a small budded node, so the whole ornament flows diagonally — perfect for filling the corner of a door panel, mirror frame or cabinet where you want movement rather than symmetry. The surface is deeply channelled with long veins that run from the base out to every lobe tip, giving it strong light-and-shadow. Because it's directional, it's typically cut as mirrored pairs to frame the top corners of a panel. Print & CNC notes: • Carved in the round with a rounded back — machine or print it as a raised applied ornament, then glue in place. • On a router the rolled volute is the pinch point: use a tapered ball-nose to reach down inside the curl, and leave holding tabs at the pointed tail so it doesn't snap free. • FDM/resin: lay it flat on the reverse and support only the overhanging scroll; 0.12mm layers keep the vein channels sharp. • Mirror for left/right corners and rescale to the panel; tight-grained lime or cherry holds the leaf edges best in timber.
