Baroque Acanthus Corner Onlay Set

Pure baroque flourish, frozen in wood. This set gathers swept acanthus scrollwork into a corner ornament: an L-shaped piece crowned with a fanned shell or palmette, its leaves unfurling into tight volute curls that spiral back on themselves, plus a separate horizontal scroll to run along an edge or rail. The carving is deeply undercut, with the leaves lifting and overlapping so light rides across every ridge and hollow. These are onlays and appliqués for makers who restore or dress up furniture — a headboard corner, a cabinet door, a mirror or picture frame, a mantelpiece or a stair newel. Because the shape reads as a corner motif, you can mirror it to trim opposite sides of a panel and frame the whole thing in matching flourishes. CNC and print notes: • Ideal for 3D relief routing in a close-grained hardwood such as lime, walnut, cherry or oak; rough with an end mill, then finish with a fine tapered ball-nose for the curls. • Mirror the model in your CAM software to produce a left-and-right pair for symmetrical corners. • If 3D printing, orient the flat back to the bed and add light supports under the deepest leaf undercuts; resin gives the sharpest scroll edges. • Sand lightly, then glue-mount to the workpiece; a dark glaze wiped into the recesses instantly reads as an antique carving.
