Description

A compact carved crest with a shell at its heart. This CNC onlay is tighter and taller than a running border — it is a cartouche built to sit as a centrepiece. At the top a fluted shell or palmette fan opens upward in a spray of rounded lobes. Below it, two acanthus leaves sweep out sideways like wings, and a pair of inward-rolling C-scroll volutes coil toward the middle, meeting over a small teardrop bud that drops from the base like a pendant. The relief is generous and softly modelled, so the scrolls read three-dimensionally. Use it as the crown of a mirror or picture frame, the centre motif on a headboard, the focal point of a cabinet apron, or a standalone carved medallion on a plain door panel. Its symmetry makes it easy to centre and to mirror if you want a matching pair. Print notes: • Carve in hardwood at around 10–15 mm relief depth; a tapered ball-nose bit resolves the tight scroll cores and the fluting on the shell. • For a lighter build, 3D print it flat and face-up as an appliqué, then glue and clamp it in place. • Break the sharp scroll edges gently with fine abrasive before finishing. • Stain and wax for a warm antique look, or paint and lightly gild the shell to lift it from the background.
