Description

A single acanthus leaf caught mid-curl, crowned with a small carved shell fan. This corner onlay flows on the diagonal: a long, muscular scroll rolls down from a fluted shell-fan at the top, then splits into a large volute on one side and a smaller answering curl below, with a fine secondary leaf peeling off the inner edge. It is shaped to nest into the corner of a frame or panel, the curl following the mitre line rather than fighting it. It is perfect for dressing the corners of a mirror or picture frame, the top of a cabinet door, a bed's headboard, or the apron of a table — anywhere a plain right-angle wants softening into something ornamental. Print notes • Mirror the file to make a matched left/right pair for both corners of a frame. • A tapered ball-nose finishing pass renders the deep scroll hollows and the fan flutes with no visible stepping. • Hardwood keeps the sharp scroll tips intact; if you carve softwood for paint, leave the tips a touch thicker to avoid blow-out. • Treat it as a glue-on onlay — carve on a thin backing and clamp it to the workpiece, which is cleaner than pocketing into an already-finished surface.
