Description

A classical trophy urn crowned with a palmette and cradled by scrolling leaves. This is a free-standing ornamental onlay rather than a framed panel: a tall fluted vase on a turned foot sits dead centre, its bowl ribbed like a shell, with two elegant swan-neck handles sweeping up from the sides. Above the lid a fanned palmette — a spray of rounded petals — rises like a flame, and to left and right two large acanthus leaves roll outward and tuck under into tight scroll curls, giving the piece a wide, wing-like footprint. It is built to be a centrepiece: the crest of an over-door or overmantel, the middle of a cabinet frieze, a headboard, or a fireplace surround. The symmetry makes it easy to pair with plainer mouldings on either side. Cutting guidance: • Machine as a raised applique with a flat back so it glues cleanly onto a host surface. • The fluting on the urn and the veins in the acanthus want a fine ball-nose finishing pass; rough out the bulk first to save bit wear. • Watch the undercuts beneath the scroll curls and handles — either accept the CNC-rounded version or hand-finish those pockets with a gouge. • Lime, tulipwood or a stable MDF all carve crisply here; seal MDF well before painting or gilding to lift the highlights.
