Twin Acanthus Scroll Vertical Onlay

Classic cabinetmaker's flourish — twin acanthus scrolls curling around a little bloom. This is a slender vertical onlay in the old furniture-ornament tradition. A central stem runs the full height, topped and tailed by upright acanthus fans; from the middle, pairs of leafy scrolls roll outward and curl back on themselves in tight snail-shell volutes, each tipped with a rounded bead. At the very heart sits a small four-petal rosette on a diamond ground, anchoring the whole symmetrical arrangement. The modelling is rounded and generous, so the leaves swell up from the background and cast soft shadows rather than sitting flat. This is the kind of applied ornament that dresses up a cabinet door, a mirror or clock frame, a headboard rail, or the apron of a console table. Stained to match walnut or oak it disappears into antique furniture; picked out in gilt cream it becomes the focal point. Print / cut notes • Cut or print flat and glue on as an appliqué — it is a surface decoration, not a structural piece. • CNC users: a small ball-nose bit is essential for the rolled scroll tips and the rosette petals. • On a 3D printer, lay it face-up with the flat back on the plate; no supports needed. • Ease the sharp back edges so it beds down cleanly against the workpiece before gluing. Mirror or repeat it in pairs for symmetrical placements on doors and panels.
