Description

A symmetrical spray of full-blown roses and curling acanthus, ready to crown a cabinet or headboard. This is a horizontal decorative onlay modelled for CNC relief work. Two open roses sit either side of a tall central palmette that fans upward like a stylised shell, while a smaller ribbed shell anchors the base and pins the composition together. From the middle the design throws out long acanthus scrolls that taper and curl to fine tendril points at each wing, giving the whole appliqué a low, wide arc that follows the top rail of a piece of furniture beautifully. The carving reads clearly from across a room: deep undercuts frame the rose blooms, and softer, flowing leaf work sweeps across the outer scrolls. It's aimed at cabinetmakers, furniture restorers and sign artisans dressing period pieces, mantels, door pediments or mirror frames where a touch of rococo detail lifts a plain panel. Print notes • Cut in a tight-grained hardwood such as maple, cherry or tulipwood so the petals keep crisp edges. • Treat it as a true 3D relief: rough with a larger ballnose, then finish the tight leaf channels with a 1–2 mm tapered ball bit. • The model is a single-sided relief; simply mirror it if you need a matching left/right pair. • Sand lightly with the grain, then a coat of shellac or paste wax lifts the figure without clogging the fine detail.
