Description

A crested acanthus cartouche that spreads its leaves like a heraldic crown. At the top rises an upright palmette plume, its fronds fanning open; directly below sits a small shield-like node that anchors the whole design. From that centre, two large acanthus leaves arc outward and downward in perfect mirror symmetry, each sweeping arm rolling into a scroll at its tip while secondary leaf tongues curl back up toward the middle. The relief is generous and rounded, with soft channelled veining down each leaf, so it catches light along the top edges and pools shadow beneath. This is a header or pediment ornament by nature: think the crown of a cabinet or armoire, the top rail of a headboard, a clock case, or the centre of a door pediment or mirror surround. Cut & print notes • Hog out the flat background first with a large bit, then switch to a fine tapered ballnose to shape the rolled scroll tips and the raised veins. • Choose a tight-grained hardwood (walnut, cherry, beech) for the cleanest curls; MDF carves fine for painted work. • The upturned leaf tips are fragile, so leave a little extra stock there and ease them by hand rather than machining to a knife edge. • Alternatively print it flat as a glue-on appliqué in PLA or resin, then colour-match, stain or gild to blend with the host piece.
