Description

A pair of flowing scroll ornaments that turn a flat panel into carved craftsmanship. This set pairs a tall, vertical filigree column with a smaller horizontal flourish, both built from ribbon-like S-scrolls that coil into tight spirals and loop back on themselves. The long piece reads like a climbing vine of interlocking curls, ideal for the stile of a cabinet door or the edge of a headboard, while the compact motif works as a matching centre or drawer accent. The relief is smooth and rounded rather than sharp, so light rolls gently across every curve. Cabinetmakers and restorers reach for onlays like this to dress plain MDF or hardwood furniture, mirror surrounds, bed frames and fireplace mantels. It also carves nicely as a standalone wall flourish. Print / CNC notes • Cut in hardwood (oak, maple, walnut) or dense modelling board; both the roughing and finishing passes want a ball-nose bit for the rounded scroll faces, with a fine V-bit to sharpen the recessed valleys between strands. • Keep the piece flat on the bed and machine the relief face-up; the design is a shallow raised carving, so no undercuts and no supports. • Mind the thin bridges where scrolls cross, leaving a little extra stock or slowing the feed there to avoid tear-out on brittle timber. • Finish with hand sanding into the spirals, then wax, gild or paint; a dark glaze wiped into the recesses makes the scrollwork pop.
