Description

A fanning palmette rising from a bed of scrolling leaves. This horizontal onlay is symmetrical about its centre: a fluted, fan-shaped palmette sits on a small plinth in the middle, framed by a pair of rolled volutes, with long acanthus leaves scrolling outward and curling down to a fine taper at each end. A scrolled crest tops the centre. Low, elegant and wing-shaped, it is designed to sit above something. Use it as a cabinet or door crest, a mirror or clock topper, an over-frame centrepiece, or a pediment ornament on furniture and mantels. The long tapering tails let it bridge a wide panel without feeling heavy. CNC notes • A shallow, wide 2.5D relief; a tapered ball-nose finishing pass rounds the leaf scrolls and the palmette flutes nicely. • Orient the long axis along your stock and check the finished width against your panel before cutting, since it is built to run horizontally. • The volute curls and the gaps beneath the leaf tips are the fragile spots; leave onion-skin tabs and part them free by hand. • Lovely in walnut, oak or lime for clear-finished work, or MDF and tooling board if it is destined to be primed and painted. Oil or wax to lift the grain.
