Description

An open ring cradled in wings of curling acanthus, ready to crown a mirror or halo a clock face. This is a wide, symmetrical carved crest built around a raised circular bezel at its heart. From that clean ring, feathered acanthus leaves fan upward into a central palmette plume, then sweep outward to left and right in long, tapering scrolls that flick and curl at their tips. The relief is deep and rounded, with crisp central veining running down each leaf so the piece catches raking light beautifully. The open centre is the whole point: drop a round mirror, a clock dial, a monogram medallion or a small framed portrait into it and the foliage becomes a frame. Cabinetmakers and restorers reach for a piece like this as an over-mantel centrepiece, a headboard crown, a cabinet or door header, or the top motif on a tall pier mirror. It suits period, Baroque and classical interiors where a plain surface needs a focal flourish. Print / carve notes • True single-sided 2.5D relief — ideal for a 3D finishing toolpath after a roughing pass on the router. • Run the grain horizontally so the long scroll arms stay strong; the delicate leaf tips are short-grain and love to chip. • The inner ring can be machined as a shallow recess for a mirror, or bored right through for a see-through frame. • Finish the raised plume and leaf crowns by hand — a quick sand knocks off fuzz and pops the veining before staining or gilding.
