Acanthus Scroll Palmette Onlay

A flourish of acanthus scrolls crowned by a rising palmette fan — classic cabinetmaker's ornament. This is a symmetrical decorative onlay: a central shell-like palmette fan sits at the top, anchored by a small carved rosette, then splits into two mirrored C-scrolls that unfurl outward into curling acanthus leaf tips. A second fan drops below a lower rosette to close the composition. The result is a balanced, wing-shaped appliqué in the Baroque/Rococo furniture tradition, all flowing volutes and leafy terminals. It is intended as an applied ornament — glued onto cabinet doors, headboards, mirror crests, mantel centres or drawer fronts — and works equally well routed from wood or printed as a resin appliqué to cast or mount. Its outward-spreading form is designed to sit centred over a panel and lead the eye along the scrolls. Print / cut notes • For CNC, use a fine-grained hardwood; the scroll tips and fan flutes need a tapered ball-nose finishing pass to keep them delicate. • Watch the fragile scroll ends — leave a small onion-skin tab or cut a containment pass so they don't tear out. • As a resin/FDM print, lay it flat and support the undercut curls; it makes an ideal master for silicone-moulded polyurethane copies. • Distress and gild for an antique gilt look, or paint to match existing furniture and blend the edges with filler after mounting.
