Fluted Oval Cartouche Drop

A slender vertical drop of carved scrollwork built around a single glowing oval eye. This narrow appliqué is all about elegant symmetry down one long axis. At its heart sits an oval medallion — a raised inner cabochon ringed by tightly packed radial flutes that catch light like sunrays. Rolled volute scrolls curl in from left and right to grip the medallion, and above and below it the design unfurls into pointed acanthus leaf sprigs. Both ends taper to teardrop finials, so the whole piece hangs like a jewelled pendant carved in wood. The relief is crisp and shallow-to-medium, with clean channelled detail rather than heavy bulk. It is made to dress vertical surfaces: stile-and-rail door panels, the sides of a tall cabinet or clock case, pilaster faces, or the uprights of a bed frame. Run it as a matched pair to flank a central motif and the balance really sings.
