Draped Laurel Garland Cornice

A garland of laurel swagged across a slender cornice bar. This relief carves a long horizontal rail hung with draping laurel-leaf garlands - a full festoon looping between two end tassels, gathered up at the centre by a rounded boss and a short hanging bunch. The leaves are tightly overlapped and dimensional, catching light along the swag so the whole strip feels like classical plasterwork translated into carved timber. The bar's stepped ends let it terminate neatly or butt against returns. It's meant for furniture makers and interior joiners dressing drawer aprons, door headers, mantel friezes or the top rail of a cabinet, adding a restrained, formal note wherever a plain length of moulding wants softening. Cut notes • The overlapping leaves reward a fine finishing pass - a small tapered ballnose picks out each individual berry and leaf tip. • Long and shallow, so keep your stock dead flat and well fixed to avoid chatter across the length. • Works in solid hardwood or dense MDF for painted finishes; choose hardwood if you want grain showing through an oil. • Scale the length to your rail and mirror it if you need matching runs either side of a centrepiece.
