Description

A neoclassical swag, two ribboned rosettes tied by a draping laurel garland. This onlay is built around symmetry: at each upper corner sits a looped bow rosette with a round boss at its heart, and from beneath each one a fan of slender petal fronds spills downward like a tassel. Slung between the two rosettes is a gently sagging garland of overlapping laurel leaves, pinched at the centre by a single crisp six-petal daisy. It's a restrained, elegant Regency-and-Adam-style motif, the sort of festoon you see carved over doorways, on drawer fronts and along the frieze of period furniture. The long, low, drooping shape makes it ideal for spanning the top rail of a cabinet, a fire surround, a bed cornice or a picture frame, wherever you want a touch of formal, symmetrical grace. Cutting notes • This is a wide, shallow bas-relief; a tapered ballnose finishing pass gives the leaves their rounded, layered look. • Mind the open loops of the bows, they're the fragile spots, so use a small stepover and clear chips well to avoid splintering the thin ribbon bridges. • Fine-grained hardwood (cherry, walnut, lime) holds the daisy and leaf veining crisply; softwood will blur it. • Finish with clear oil to keep it natural, or pick out the rosettes with a whisper of gilt wax for a French antique feel. Just as effective printed in resin as a lightweight appliqué, then glued and colour-matched to existing joinery.
