Description

A long, symmetrical ribbon of scrollwork to crown a door or dress a mantel. This is a horizontal decorative relief built for mirror symmetry. At the centre, tight paired C-scrolls curl into one another like a heraldic knot; from there the pattern unspools outward into two sweeping feathered acanthus fronds that arc down and hook back on themselves, each terminating in a rolled volute. The carving is low and flowing rather than deep and spiky, so light rakes gently across it and every curl catches a highlight. It's designed as an applied ornament — a header above a doorway or cabinet, a crest across the top of a mirror or headboard, or a running motif along an apron or overmantel. The elongated proportion makes it ideal wherever you need to fill a wide, shallow band. CNC notes • Cut as a relief in close-grained hardwood, MDF or a modelling board; the fine scroll tips resolve best in a dense material that won't chip. • Rough with a ballnose, then finish the tight inner curls with a small tapered ball or fine V-bit to reach the recesses between volutes. • Mind grain direction across the thin acanthus fingers to avoid tear-out, and take a light finishing pass. • Sand lightly, then gild, wax or paint and glaze to sink colour into the recesses and pop the raised scrolls.
